A significant conflict in the middle of the 6th century SR, the War of the Empty Throne pitted the Dual Empire of the Savirai against the Karapeshai Exatai, each side struggling for control of Gallat through their own proxy states in the middle -- Tarena and the League of Gallasa, respectively. In addition to the political leader, each side aimed to influence the religious affiliation of the Gallatene people -- the Savirai attempting to convert them to Aitahism, the Karapeshai to maintain the faith of Maninism.

The war absorbed nearly all of the Empire's attention, with Khatai I leading his forces to numerous victories in support of the Aitahists. The Karapeshai Redeemer Avetas, on the other hand, avoided becoming personally involved, instead sending Arto Rutarri and Elikas-ta-Tisatar on campaign. Khatai managed to hold both Karapeshai generals to a stalemate, though he would lose the Tarenan capital of Pamala to a combined force of Karapeshai soldiers and their ally -- Cyve.

Khatai was eventually assassinated by an agent of the Wolves of the Sable. His death led to a succession crisis in the Dual Empire, whose representatives quickly signed a peace treaty with the Exatai. Both states would soon be absorbed in civil war. The League of Gallasa completed its triumph by conquering the last Tarenan remnants and driving out the few Cyvekt forces who had lingered on despite the peace treaty.

This was almost immediately followed by the War of the Ashen Throne.
